Yesterday we reflected on the life of our dear Grandma, and Great Grandma to my kids. I literally don't know anyone who has lived as full of a life as my sweet grandma. I say it is full because she filled it with people, experience and service. Yesterday was comforting, inspiring, joyful and of course saddening for us as we bid farewell to such a force for good in our lives. There are lots of pictures here. Family, feel free to take and save any pictures you'd like.
Grandma was an expert quilt and doll maker, among many other things she'd create.
This picture warmed my heart. They are looking at the headstone of my grandparents. I love the idea of the kids meeting my grandpa who is buried next to grandma. They will love him!
I want to end this post with two recent pictures I took of grandma. This is how I'll remember her. Radiant face, full of life and positivity.
As we were driving home yesterday from the days events, I wrote down some resolutions. There were so many telling stories of grandma that were shared. I learned so much about her and realized that we are more alike than I thought- she was just a better version! I also realized that I need to step up my game and be MORE like grandma! I didn't want to forget my most favorite attributes of grandma so here they are. She would always think the best of people. She was
actively a friend. It wasn't just a title. She wasn't afraid to talk to strangers, I think this is because she had love in her heart that made her unafraid to approach people. She knew that everyone mattered and had something important to say, I think this is why she was so approachable. I loved how she was non judgmental. I always felt like she would take my side. If I complained about something, she always validated what I was saying- didn't try to correct me. She remembered details about people, I think you can only do this if you genuinely care about a person. She was courageous and positive and that took her a long way in life. I know here positivity brought her such happiness and that is something we could all benefit from in our lives. It was said many times yesterday that she tried to make her kids life better. One way she did this was by identifying their interests and providing ways for them to pursue them. As parents, I think helping our kids cultivate their interests is one of the best ways to help them build confidence. I want to be better at that. So, in short, when I grow up, I want to be like grandma.
One last thing. I know she's watching over us. One of the last things I said to her was "Please watch over us." She told me should would do that. I think we all felt her presence yesterday as we remembered her. I look forward to her presence to continue in my life throughout the coming years. We love you grandma!!
